As Iron Sharpens Iron...
As Iron Sharpens Iron...
Why Iron Lotus?
There are a plethora of 'Christian Karate' associations out there, some while teaching high-quality martial arts, they lack in Biblical discipleship, and others have become too soft on their martial arts skills and as such have become impractical for actual self-defense situations. Further many of these organizations are not branching out, recruiting, and TRAINING their instructors to be professional disciplemakers. Many join an association or organization for a certificate on their wall or a patch on their shoulder, but never truly live the Christian way nor intentionally build authentic fellowship with the community. Such organizations rarely have any seminars, conventions or even meetings to sharpen one another. Rather, they seem to exist as an ego boost or at the minimum on a positive note, help lend some credibility to a practitioner looking to grow, expand, and forward his art to the next generation with some public notoriety.
As such, the "Christian" martial arts community has largely become a joke in the professional martial arts world. This was a deciding factor in our name selection. we wanted to be attractive to the world but BOLD in our stance and meaning.
Iron = As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. Proverbs 27:17. We exist to build a community of Warriors in the Christian community who are committed to discipleship, accountability, and sharpening each others' skills in discipleship, as well as the martial arts.
Lotus = In the Martial Arts and eastern cultures, The lotus flower is often seen as 'rising into enlightenment' as it rises up out of the murky waters. Simply put, this symbolizes for us 'rising into the enlightenment of Christ' John 3:19-21 speaks of coming to the light, not just in person, but also in action so that others may see our deeds are done in God. As we approach the Light, there is a stark and uncomfortable contrast from this world. It forces us to confront our past and become something new, to be reborn, putting to death our desire for darkness as we fully embrace the light. This also speaks to our purpose as bringers of Light in a dark world.

Shinja Kenpo Karate
Shinja Kenpo Karate
信者 Shinja (Beliver, Christian)
拳法 Kenpo (Fist Law, General term for many styles of Chinese or Japanese martial arts)
唐手 Karate (kara, "Tang Dynasty; China” - te, "hand" as the art was originally transmitted from China to Okinawa, and thence to mainland Japan.)
Shinja Kenpo Karate is a blended Martial Arts System that focuses equally on spiritual discipline as it does on warrior discipline and martial ability.
After training for over 17 years in various martial arts, (Shotokan, Shou Shu Kung Fu, American Kenpo, and Shaolin Kempo.) Pastor Spencer R. Fusselman developed Shinja Kenpo Karate as a way to bridge the gap between physical and spiritual disciplines. Through his military career, he learned that a holistic warrior is one who is spiritual, mental, and physically prepared. Likewise, a holistic Believer (shinja) Is one who is spiritually disciplined in the Word and prayer, Mentally disciplined to believe the truth while dismantling lies, and physically fit to follow where Christ may lead.

It is an immersive journey designed to incorporate the entire family in the discipleship process rather than simply a repackaged karate system with bible verses attached. This system was built for discipleship and leadership training from the ground up. We focus on training the ‘Whole Man’, as we leverage martial arts and physical movement as a vehicle to better understand the Gospel.
